Electric Wizard - Witchcult Today

Electric Wizard - Witchcult Today

Tracks:
1. Witchcult Today
2. Dunnwitch
3. Satanic Rites of Drugula
4. Raptus
5. The Chosen Few
6. Torquemada 71
7. Black Magic Rituals & Perversions
8. Saturnine

notes: Electric Wzard is from England and they claim that they are the heaviest band on earth. that may be debatable, but they have been around a while and despite various line-up changes still put out consistently good albums. file this under stoner/sludge/doom metal. Despite the ridiculous name, I like track 3 the best, the last two tracks are also great if you are in the mood for something of epic proportions.

Disfear - Live The Storm

Disfear - Live The Storm

Tracks:
1. Get It Off
2. Fiery Father
3. Deadweight
4. The Cage
5. The Furnace
6. Live The Storm
7. Testament
8. In Exodus
9. Maps Of War
10. Phantom

notes: Disfear is still a band?? this was news to me, but apparently they are about to put out this record and will be playing Gilman in March. Disfear is a D-Beat band from Sweden that formed in the early 90s out of a love for the band Discharge. indeed the prefix 'Dis' was added associate their band with Discharge. (for the record, the 'D-Beat' style was named after a popular Discharge beat.) despite all of the Discharge worship they certainly have their own sound and are one of the better D-Beat bands. although they are missing some original members it sounds like they are still solid and this record could stand up to and probably beat your favorite Tragedy and Holy Mountain records. Enjoy.

Thin Lizzy - Bad Reputation

Thin Lizzy - Bad Reputation

Tracks:
1. Soldier of Fortune
2. Bad Reputation
3. Opium Trail
4. Southbound
5. Dancing In The Moonlight
6. Killer Without A Cause
7. Downtown Sundown
8. That Woman's Gonna Break Your Heart
9. Dear Lord

notes: every so often, one of my friends will take up an interest in Thin Lizzy and ask me what the best album is. this is always a hell of a question for me to answer, as there's a lot of great Thin Lizzy records. after giving it a lot of thought i've decided that Bad Reputation is the best starting point. the first three tracks are definitely some crunchy grooves.

Teen Cthulhu - Ride The Blade

Teen Cthulhu - Ride The Blade (2002)

Tracks:
1. Burning Fields
2. Fantastic Wound
3. I'm Going To Fucking Kill Myself
4. The Aquaducts Will
5. 120 Days of Sodom
6. Milder Dimensions
7. Hydroencephaloid
8. Fucking With Death
9. Bloodhorse
10. Knocking On Heaven's Gate
11. Hillgiant Witch
12. Ready The Guillotine
13. Wolfhunter

notes: i decided i would start with what i consider to be an unknown classic. Teen Cthulhu are more or less in a league of their own. is it black metal? is it punk? are they old metally looking dudes with beards and illegitimate children or methed-out teenagers somewhere in the Midwest? either way they certainly know how to turn out a riff. the first track is as good a starting point as any; Fucking With Death is also righteous.

bienvenido

as i have benefited from the wealth of music blogs on the internet i felt it was my turn to give back. i think (or i hope) that most of the things i will post on here will be obscure and/or rare items that you might not have heard of but i think are worth discovering. please enjoy.
